Melissa has a love of all dogs and works hard to help rescued animals whether it's through different kinds of volunteering for shelter or rescue organizations, fundraising or offering aggression assessments rescued animals. An avid reader of dog training and behaviour, Melissa has also completed the course for the ASPCA SAFER assessment which was originally developed by Dr. Emily Weiss, C.A.A.B to safely assess rescued animals for aggression and determine which ones are in need of behaviour modification. In Dogs We Trust is currently running multiple group classes per week as well as private consultations for behaviour modification of severe issues such as aggression, separation anxiety, or profound fear.

In Dogs We Trust uses reward based methods teaching people how to effectively communicate with their dog so he understands what you are asking of him and that he will be rewarded for listening. Handlers will learn how dogs think, how they learn and how their bad behaviour may be unintentionally being reinforced. We encourage good behaviour by reinforcing it with rewards that come from us (toys, treats or praise) or rewards that come from the environment. Since we quickly fade the treat lure, using life rewards is highly effective. You wont have to use treats everytime and your dog will still be rewarded and happy.
